Proficiency Card
The “AFF IRC Proficiency Card” can be found in the IRM and serves as your rating application to be send to the USPA after the course. Most tasks will be signed off during the course by either I/E or evaluator. However, the tasks no 1 till 8 should be done prior to the course and need to be signed by a current USPA Instructor. The signatures on the proficiency card are valid up to 12 months, so that should give you enough time to fulfill all the needed requirements. If you are already a current USPA Instructor (i.e. another method specific), you are able to skip the starred requirements (*).
You can download the USPA AFF-I Proficiency Card here.
Course outline and examination
The course takes app. 6-7 days (depending on the number of candidates) and will start in the classroom at 09:00 am on the first day with verification of all requirements. All candidates should have the needed documentation at hand. Each candidate will be evaluated on ground preparations (Category C and Category D from the ISP (integrated student program) to be found in the SIM) as well as with a maximum of four in-air evaluation jumps. During the course there is the possibility to start off with two practice dives before the actual evaluation begins. If you prefer more practice, please sign up to our AFF Pre-Course in order to be 100% prepared and ready. The requirements for passing the AFF IRC are depending on the score “satisfactory” for the following sections:
- a Category C ground preparation
- a Category D ground preparation
- a Category C in-air evaluation (main side)
- a Category C in-air evaluation (reserve side)
- a Category D in-air evaluation (solo)
To pass the ground evaluation, it will be necessary to have an overall ”satisfactory” score in the sections for the Category C and Category D ground preparation. To pass the in-air evaluation, it will be necessary to have a “satisfactory” score (75% or more) of two Category C in-air evaluations (main and reserve side) as well as Category D in-air evaluation (solo). Each evaluation form can be found in the IRM.
Furthermore, each candidate will have to score at least 80% on the written open book exam. Candidates, who have not filled in the exam completely or who did not score 80%, must retake the exam during the course and a 100% score will be required.
The USPA Proficiency Card has to be signed off completely.
